Our next class meeting will be Sunday, October 21.
Last time, we watched and discussed two brief Matthew Kelly videos: "Your Choices Matter" and "The Best Way to Live." Choices have consequences, and your choices determine who you become. The keys, then, are to choose what leads to being the best version of yourself, virtue, and self-control.
We then discussed why relativism is a lie. Not only is it logically self-contradictory, no one except a psychopath really believes it. There's always something, some point at which each person says, "No, that's wrong," whether it be honor killings, segregation, the Holocaust, or something else. Also, as Dr. Martin Luther King pointed out, everything that Hitler did in Germany was legal. Segregation, slavery, and Jim Crow were all legal. But these were unjust laws — which means that there must be a higher law; otherwise, we could not even say these actions were wrong, let alone try the Nazis in court.
If you missed class or want to review, complete the worksheet as you watch the videos and read the article on which I based most of the relativism discussion. You will find the worksheet and links to the videos and article at the resources post for this class meeting.
