P&C class update for Nov 17

Submitted by Suchi Myjak on

Our next class will be Sunday, December 1.
(No class this Sunday, the 24th. Happy Thanksgiving!)

Last time:
We began by reading through rest of the first act of the play Robert & Emma, entitled: Choosing Andrew. We discussed it in light of what we have learned about happiness, success, and quality of life. The discussion handout is linked in the resources post. We will be hearing further installments of the story later in the year.

After that, we watched a video featuring Diane Rose, a quilter from Texas. The amazing thing about Diane is that she sews quilts even though she is blind! We followed that with a second video featuring Nick Vujicic, who was born with no arms or legs due to a rare disorder. Then we discussed both and applied the "Six Principles" from last time. Diane and Nick amaze and inspire others because they don't let their disabilities define them or keep them from finding meaning and joy in life.

By the way, Nick Vujicic did eventually marry; he and his wife Kanae now have four children.

Homework:

  • Write down and bring to class arguments that you have heard in support of abortion, euthanasia, or assisted suicide. We will work out solid responses to them beginning next class.

If you missed the class or want to review, please use the resources post at the blog to flesh out the summary above. There are links to a recording of the play (first act), the videos, definitions of terms, the Choosing Andrew discussion handout, and more. If you'd like me to email you the discussion questions for the videos, please contact me.

Additional resources:

I also list a couple of books that I have on related topics, including one by Nick Vujicic. If you'd like to borrow one, let me know!

I've linked to a couple of bonus videos, too! I really recommend that you watch the one of a young man named Josh Burger, at least the first few minutes.

Class schedule:

The complete schedule is pinned at the top of the class blog.

As always, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.

Blessings,
Suchi / Mrs. Myjak
